What is the UIL?
The UIL is an opportunity for students to take what they have learned from the classroom and apply it in a competitive but friendly academic environment. The goals of the UIL are as follows:

bring excitement to learning

work with other students in a competitive atmosphere

achieve mastery of essential knowledge and skill

test students' skills and knowledge

experience the satisfaction of a successful and rewarding performance

achieve academic excellence and recognition
What are the contests that students can participate in?
At Justin Elementary, students have participated in the following:

Number Sense (grades 4-5)

Oral Reading (grades 3-5)
-
Spelling (grades 3-5)
-
Creative Writing ( grade 2)

Storytelling (grades 2-3)
-
Ready Writing (grades 3-5)
-
Dictionary Skills (grade 5)
-
Maps, Graphs, & Charts (grades 4-5)
When will UIL begin and when is the competition?
Due to the limit of entrants allowed, tryouts are usually held in late fall. Once tryouts are held, practices are once a week, and usually begin after Christmas. UIL is generally scheduled towards the end of March/early April.
We are always looking for parents to help coach events!
